Plan a sod order
Measure your lawn in rectangles and calculate each area. This tool estimates one rectangular area at a time. Add an allowance for trimming at curves, paths and borders; do not treat the default as a supplier guarantee.
Use the supplier’s roll size
Sod may be sold in rolls, slabs or pallets. Enter the actual square-foot coverage of one piece and the number of pieces per pallet. These values differ among suppliers. The example defaults are 10 square feet per piece and 50 pieces per pallet.
Formula and example
Order area = length × width × allowance factor. Pieces = ceiling(order area ÷ coverage per piece). Pallets = ceiling(pieces ÷ pieces per pallet). A 50 × 20-foot lawn with 10% extra needs 1,100 square feet, or 110 ten-square-foot pieces. With 50 pieces per pallet, that is 3 full pallets.
Understand the cost
The cost estimate prices the required whole pieces, not a mandatory purchase of full pallets. If your supplier sells only full pallets, request a pallet quote. Site preparation, removal, soil amendments, watering, tax and installation labor are excluded.
