A material list for your patio
Measure a rectangular patio in feet, then enter the coverage dimensions of one paver in inches. Use the manufacturer’s effective coverage dimensions where joints or interlocking patterns change the footprint. Add an allowance for cuts and breakage. The calculator rounds pavers up to whole pieces.
Base and bedding layers
Enter the gravel and sand depths specified for your product, soil and expected use. The 4-inch gravel and 1-inch sand defaults are example estimating inputs, not installation specifications. The tool applies the same allowance to pavers and both layers. Loose order volume and compacted installed volume can differ; confirm ordering quantities with your supplier.
Formulas and example
Pavers = ceiling(length × width × 144 ÷ paver coverage area in square inches × allowance factor). Each layer in cubic yards = patio area × layer depth in inches ÷ 324 × allowance factor. For 20 × 10 feet with 12 × 12-inch coverage and 10% extra, the estimate is 220 pavers, 2.72 yards of 4-inch base, and 0.68 yards of 1-inch sand.
What is excluded?
Jointing sand, edging, fabric, excavation, equipment, tax and labor are excluded. Enter real supplier prices; zero means no price has been supplied. Materials cost uses whole pavers plus calculated bulk layer volumes and your fixed charge.
